Follow the steps below to create and publish a design on Instagram that seamlessly displays on the popular social media app.

Size your design for Instagram

Instagram showcases videos and images in a characteristic way: from square photos to videos that fit smartphone displays. Knowing the dimensions of your design before you start customizing it will let you create an eye-catching visual that looks as good in the Venngage Editor as it does on an Instagram grid or Explore page.

Scrolling through Venngage's Instagram feed @venngage, square photos with infographic and informative designs are visible in a 3x3 grid.

Photos

For a still image like a photo or a graphic, Instagram's photo feed will display an image in a square (1:1) ratio:

Don't worry! You can also upload landscapeor portraitimages; you just want to make sure that you're hitting that 1080 px in width. That means you'll want the following approximate measurements:

Videos

For animated images and videos, upload to your feed using a 1:1 ratio or to IGTV, Reels or Stories (which us a ratio of 9:16).

Venngage's Video Editor (Beta) offers multiple templates perfect for powering up your Instagram visuals with an animated graphic or video:

Social Media templates in the Venngage Video Editor, in 1:1 and 9:16 ratios. There are templates for HR presentations, hiring processes, promotional marketing, personal branding and more.

For your feed use a video in the 1:1 ratio, 1080 x 1080 px. For the rest, try a 9:16 ratio at 1080 x 1290 px. The table below offers the ratio measurements in units of pixels, inches and centimeters.

Download your image or video in the right format

Videos download from the Venngage Video Editor (Beta) in .mp4 format, which is compatible with Instagram.

A user clicks the "Download" button in the top right-hand corner of the Venngage Video Editor and begins the download process; a progress bar appears on the screen and updates as the download progresses.

To share a still image on Instagram, download your image from the Venngage Editor as a PNG HD or other image file. We recommend PNG HD for clear, high-resolution visuals with lossless compression.

In the Venngage Editor, a user clicks the download icon in the top toolbar, to the left of the Preview button. They select "PNG HD" format from the download menu and click "Download". A progress bar appears as the design downloads.
