Adding Text Effects

When creating captivating visual content, text effects can play a significant role in making your designs stand out. Venngage offers a suite of text effects you can apply to text elements, including shadow, outline, glow, offset, repeat, and curve. Each effect is customizable, giving you control over style, intensity, and appearance so you can achieve the perfect look.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Text effects only change the visual presentation. Screen readers will still read the text as normal, but some visual styles may reduce legibility for users with low vision. Use effects thoughtfully and maintain good color contrast.

How to Apply Text Effects

  1. Select Your Text: Click on the text box you want to edit.

  2. Open Effects: In the top toolbar, click on the Effects button.

  3. Choose an Effect: Select from shadow, outline, glow, offset, repeat, or curve.

  4. Customize the Effect: Use sliders, number fields, and color pickers to adjust.

  5. Preview and Adjust: See changes in real time and refine until it looks right.

Shadow

Adds depth and dimension by creating a shadow behind text.

  • Offset: Adjust the distance between text and its shadow.

  • Direction: Change the shadow’s angle.

  • Blur: Control edge sharpness (crisp or soft).

  • Transparency: Set shadow opacity.

  • Color: Pick a shadow color.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Avoid low-contrast shadows on small text. They can make content harder to read.

Outline

Turns text into a hollow outline.

  • Thickness: Adjust the line width.

  • Color: Choose an outline color.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Thin outlines may reduce legibility, especially on busy backgrounds.

Glow

Creates a radiant aura around text.

  • Intensity: Control how strong or subtle the glow is.

  • Color: Pick a glow color.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Bright glows can reduce contrast. Ensure glow colors don’t blend into the background.

Offset

Creates a layered look by shifting the text.

  • Offset: Adjust the distance of the layer.

  • Direction: Set the angle of the offset.

  • Blur: Control edge sharpness.

  • Transparency: Adjust opacity.

  • Color: Pick a color for the offset text.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Offset layers can make text look doubled. Use sparingly to maintain clarity.

Repeat

Duplicates text in a pattern.

  • Offset: Adjust distance between repeats.

  • Direction: Set the angle of repetition.

  • Color: Choose a color for repeated text.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Repeated text is decorative only, screen readers read it once. Don’t rely on repeat effects for important emphasis.

Curve

Curves your text along an arc for creative effects.

  • Slider: Adjust curvature from inverted arcs to full circles.

  • Manual Input: Type a number for precise control.

  • Font Compatibility: Works with most fonts, including uploaded ones.

  • Supports: Works with glow, offset, repeat, outline, and shadow.

  • Limitations: Doesn’t currently support text highlights.

When editing text, you’ll see it appear straight, but once saved it maintains the curve.

⚠️ Accessibility note: Screen readers read curved text normally, but visual users may struggle if the curve makes the text hard to follow. Keep curvature moderate for readability.

Best Practices for Using Text Effects

Keep accessibility in mind: Always maintain high color contrast. Use the Venngage Accessibility Checker to verify compliance.
Less is more: Overusing effects can reduce legibility. Choose one or two that enhance, not distract.
Match your brand style: Stay consistent with your design theme.
Test readability: Preview at smaller sizes and check for contrast issues.

✨ Text effects in Venngage enhance your content visually, while still being compatible with accessibility standards when used carefully. Experiment with each effect and make sure your designs are inclusive and engaging.
