To lock an object: 

1. Click the object. 

2. Click the Lock button on the top toolbar. The item will highlight red once it has been locked.

Note: you can unlock objects by clicking them once and clicking the lock button again. When locked, objects cannot be moved.

You can also use the right-click menu to copy or lock/unlock objects. Note that multiple objects cannot be locked at the same time.
