What is a flowchart?

A flowchart usually moves in one general direction and takes on a vertical or horizontal shape. There is one “starting” item and items can be connected to multiple parent items. You can either add a new item (line + item) or connect two existing items (drag line from item-to-item). There is no single parent item, but there is a starting item.

Adding an item

  1. Hover your mouse near the item you want to connect to, and the ports appear.

  2. Click the add button and a new item is created.

  3. Click and drag the add button to drag a line connecting to an existing item.

  4. You can connect to the item on one of the four ports (top, bottom, left, right).

  5. Dropping the line on the canvas creates a new item that matches the style and size of the starting item.

Changing a shape

  • You can change the shape of the item using the toolbar controls.

  • The layout adjusts to match a shape if required.

Reconnecting Items

  1. Select the line.

  2. Click and drag the end of the line to a blue port on the shape you want to connect to.

Changing the line style

  • Edit colour/styles.

Copy/Paste Styles

  1. Select the shape you want to copy the style from.

  2. Click the Copy Style button.

  3. Select the shape you want to paste the style to. Note: you can select multiple shapes to apply a style to all of them.

  4. Click the Paste Style button.
