When you have an item layered behind larger items, you can multi-select the items by dragging over all the items using your mouse.
When selected, click the Group icon on the top toolbar.
You can now move the group around the canvas. To ungroup, click the icon again. When you have an item layered behind larger items, you can multi-select the items by dragging over all the items using your mouse.
